                                             Grandchild Scam

Scams are taking place all the time and senior citizens are often targeted.  It is suggested that if you question the legitimacy of mail or phone calls you may receive, call your local police department.  In Bellbrook that number is 848-8484.  Here is some information you will probably never need, but important to be aware of.

One scam is the “grandchild scam”.  In this scam, someone makes a phone call claiming to be a grandchild far from home and asking the person to send them money to help with a car problem.  Usually the scamer uses an actual name.  Verify this is true before you assume that the call actually did come from that grandchild.

                                                  Lottery Scam

Another scam uses the lottery.  Someone may receive a letter indicating that they have won the lottery and will be asked to give away personal information.  NEVER respond to this…especially if you have not played the lottery!  In fact, never give personal information over the phone to someone you have not initiated contact with.

There is another security  problem that could become more prevalent now that the weather has changed.  There have been occasions when someone left the front door unlocked while they were in the back yard, then someone opened the front door and helped themselves to the person’s purse or other valuables.

Remember, when in doubt call the Bellbrook Police at 848-8484.
